New Products, New Paradigms: Combination Products for Women

Satellite Symposium on MPTs
Thursday, July 26, 2012 – 6:30pm-8:30pm

Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (MPTs), or Combination Products, were the subject of a satellite session at AIDS 2012 in Washington, DC. Dr. Helen Rees of the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute, South Africa, and Dr. Debra Birnkrant of the U.S. FDA, co-chaired the session, which was co-convened by the Population Council and CAMI, along with AVAC, CONRAD, USAID, and WHO. The session highlighted the needs, challenges, and opportunities for development of multipurpose prevention technologies (MPTs) that would provide simultaneous protection against HIV/other STIs and unintended pregnancy.
